26 March Crazy WeekendI haven't had a weekend like this in a while. An amazing rollercoaster of a weekend.
I left work at 3pm on Friday to head to Omaha for the Miss Crazy show. I got out of town about 4:15pm after getting changed and ready to go.
When I first got home, I noticed that the phone wasn't on. I had hoped to call my daughters before I left. I saw that I had internet and cable so I figured that I just needed to reset the modem and I'd have my phone. Wrong move. After I did that, the internet was gone. They had shut things off to get them moved. I just didn't have any warning about this.
I headed to Omaha with all the stuff to be ready for the show. I had my markers, stuff for them to sign, my Miss Crazy shirt and CD. I had directions all ready to go and I was ready for this night to unwind from the hectic last couple of weeks leading up to moving. The directions were easy and I arrived by 6:30pm at the club.
The place, now called The Warehouse, looked like a building that needed some remodeling, which apparently is being done. They looked closed for business. I drove around back and saw a van that had a window down. Turns out that the beer guy was taking cases of beer out of the building. I walked up to the door and knocked as the guy was coming out. I explained to him that I'd driven quite a way to see a show and he was kind enough to give me the phone number of the owner. I called the owner from a pay phone and he said the gig had been cancelled for two weeks! I was livid! Of course, the only person I could be mad at was myself.
The people I had contacted before the show who were close to the band said the show was going on. Of course, I was unable to reach the club by phone prior to the date to confirm things, but I trusted the websites of the band. You live and you learn.
When I got my internet and cable installed on Saturday, the first thing I did was check out the Miss Crazy Message Board. Sure enough, about 3pm on Friday they had sent out a cancellation notice about the Omaha show. Granted, it was a couple of weeks too late according to the club owner, but the notice went out. If I hadn't messed with my cable modem, I may have saved myself a round trip to Omaha.
The move has had it's own interesting quirks. Yes, we found the house fast and they let us move in early at no charge. I had called last Monday to get my cable service, which includes phone and internet, moved to the new address by the weekend. They told me that a tech would be out between 1pm and 4pm on Saturday. I had given them my roommates cell phone to call since I wasn't sure if they would be able to get through on mine. At 4:30pm, the tech finally showed up mentioning that he tried calling. Of course, he tried calling the number that Mediacom disconnected as opposed to the number I left.
When the cable guy went to put a hole in the living room floor to run the cable to my TV, I asked him to cut a small hole in the carpet in case the drill caught a thread and created a run in the carpet. The guy assured me that wouldn't happen and then proceeded to put a small run in the carpet while I hollered to stop the drilling. He quickly apologized and cut the carpet as I asked and successfully drilled the hole.
Now the cable and internet are up and running. Of course it went down after midnight last night so I was on the phone until 2am getting it back up and running as well as trying to follow up about the phone service. Hopefully, it will be up by Friday at the latest. I've been put through the ringer so badly with Mediacom that I actually yelled and cussed at the woman who assisted me on Friday. Check that. The second woman that helped me on Friday. The first failed to call back as she said she would. I had been told last Monday that the phone should be hooked up today. Today I got ahold of a superviser who is taking care of this personally. She was wonderful about following up with me today and I feel better than I ever have about dealing with Mediacom. It's always a pain, but this supervisor is turning things around for me. I'm also getting two months free of the phone service since I had all the problems just transferring the service.
Most of the move is done. We have a living room. The bedrooms are mostly done. The bathroom is mostly done. We just have to get the kitchen moved over and the rest of the basement items. Thankfully, we have this coming weekend to finish up what little there is and clean the old house.
The old landlord came by the old place tonight and we visited for a bit. We had a great time living there in a wonderful house. It was mtuaully beneficial and a great arrangement. It's sad to move, but we have a great place now. Things always work out for the best, I suppose.
As for Miss Crazy, I will see them in May. I should have more to post when the move is finished. 23 March Moving AgainGotta move again. One of my roommates moved out at the end of last month, but paid through the lease which ends this month. We ahd hoped to find another roommate, but after three online roommate sites and putting the word out at church, work, and with friends, we have come up with no other roommate.
We found a beautiful 2 bedroom house with a full basement that will be more than adequate and fits in our price range. We signed the paperwork last weekend and my kids were able to see the place. We started the move a few nights ago by taking a van load over each of the last 3 nights. We will do the brunt of the moving this weekend.
After 3 nights of moving, I'll be glad to have a break tonight. I'm heading to Omaha to see Miss Crazy! Miss Crazy is an awesome band and I just can't wait until they come here in May. With their upcoming schedule, I may see them 5 times this year.
Hope to see some of the Miss Crazy Army in Omaha! Then it's back to the moving... 12 March Finally, My Own Computer! It's been close to two years, but I finally have my own computer again. Yes, as a computer guy, I'd been borrowing one of my roommate's computers to get things done. I finally got two computers from a friend for only $400. I have to add a CD burner to the smaller one, but I have tons of parts from my last two systems in the basement. I got most of my hard drives in the larger one so I can finally get a ton of files taken care of. It's been great getting things set up and it will be awesome to have them running side by side on my desk.
I also had a wonderful weekend with my girls! I was supposed to have them the weekend before, but the weather kept me stranded in Des Moines. I was able to cook for them both days. We went shopping on Saturday and got them each two outfits and several books. We went to a friend's house Saturday night and watched Ghostbusters. I also got beat again at Monolpoly by my youngest daughter. I think I have won twice against her the entire time we've owned the game. She also beat me at Farkle, too. No, I don't let her win. She just does! It was so much fun and I can't wait to see the girls again next weekend.
I'm so thankful that Spring is finally here! The snow it just about gone! 01 March Some Things Never Change"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers! In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I'm readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects and I'll, in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials - after the fact."
